Nothing new on race day, the golden rule I’ve seen so many runners offer newbies any time one of them asks for running advice. And I wholeheartedly agree, especially when it comes to fueling on the go – but when it comes to relief from chafing, I’ll take my chances!

Runderwear’s Chafe-Free Guarantee

I received my Runderwear Briefs the day before the Gettysburg Blue-Gray Half Marathon, so I figured this was the perfect time to put these chafe-preventing garments to the test.

Runderwear undies are made with 360° seamless technology that guards against chaffing. No seams mean no weird spots or oddball places for you to chafe, the seamless construction is supportive and comfortable. The undies are made with breathable moisture-wicking fabric to keep you running cool and without worry. When I put these bad boys on I noticed the comfortable fit and overall nice feel of the briefs. I’m a men’s size 32″ waist and went with the Medium briefs, I feel like the overall fit is true to size. Out of the box, they fit like a glove and didn’t feel bulky or weird.

The Problem with Boxer Briefs

Typically I wear running shorts with liners and apply liberal amounts of BodyGlide to my inner thighs, so the thought of wearing Runderwear had me skeptical. In the past when I first started running I would run with traditional boxer briefs, and mesh gym shorts. I would find the combination uncomfortable as the problem with traditional underwear is that they would ride up my inner thigh and become a bundled up mess right in the inconvenient spot of my crotch.

My inner thighs would become exposed and I would chafe in the general area of the bunched up mess. To compound the issue and make matters worse, the mesh shorts would oftentimes become caught up in the boxers and would dance right up on my thighs making for a HOT ZONE of chaffing.

The Runderwear Fix!

To solve this problem, the legs of the Runderwear briefs have a small rubberized strip to help prevent the brief from riding up your thighs and bunching. Goodbye, worry, and goodbye HOT ZONE! I found the undies to be non-intrusive and I completely forgot I had them on for the duration of the half marathon. In fact, around mile 10 when things start to make their presence known, chafing wasn’t on the list. Runderwear for the WIN!

Overall Impressions

So where do I stand on Runderwear Performance Undies? I’m standing on a solid 4.5 rating (4.75 if you do the math)!

Given that I don’t feel it necessary to use them for EVERY run, I don’t think these are one of my “must-have” items for daily running. I do think they are necessary for any prolonged running or races in the half marathon and up territory. For that reason alone, I think it’s worth it for anyone to at least purchase one or two pairs.

During the Ragnar race last year, Runderwear would have come in clutch for me since I was in and out of running with varying distances and getting “changed” for every leg proved difficult. Chafing was real during that event, Runderwear would have saved my thighs!

My husband hates to run because of the chafing. Usually he steals my Body Glide but I think I will have to get him a pair of Runderwear. It may be a game changer for him!

I’m a huge Body Glide fan, but using up a stick every other month or so isn’t fun. These briefs were a blessing, and getting them the day before a half Marathon was the perfect storm.
